In all the european comunist countries we used to find a balnearic town. They all are a special jewell in the Partie’s crown. This unique towns are figurated in order to provide a little breakdown in their rutine. The workers used to be rewarded sometimes with a holiday in one of those cities. In that time, these cities were kept as best as they could and nowadays, some of them, are in a worst situation as they used to be. About that point, we will write a post someday. [...]
So, Pogradeci IS ALSO a balnearic town, and was the most exclusive one, because was not specifically designed for the workers but for the Party members. It is also common in those regimes to have special areas sealed off from the public. The most famous example was the Berliner outsider town of Pankow in the DDR.
Pogradeci means literally “the city lying below the castle”. Nowadays it’s really difficoult to find out were the castle is… trully, we did’t realized about it. Pogradeci has 30.000 inhabitants… it’s a really quiet town. We don’t find much tall buildings, part of the city is a pedestrian zone (incredible!!), it’s surrounded by hills and it has got a really awesome afternoon life. Everyone, when it gets dark just take a promenade by the lake, just walking and talking. Our friend Matt shows us how to integrate us… you just have to say “Mirë?” (means good) and wait for the answer. Usually the answer is a simple “Mirë” but if the other guy is kind a good friend then you can start a short conversation.
Who is Matt? Matt is him (press the link)… naaah, is not him but our Matt is as cool as him. He hosted us in his house. We met him beacuse was a friend of KSay (find out who’s KSay). Both are US peace corps. And, because we are so thankfull of his hospitality, this post is dedicated to him!
The city lies on the lake Ohrid. On the other side of the lake we can find FYR Macedonia. In the lake we can find out a very unique fauna and flora. 80% of its species are endemic. We can also find the Ohrid trout, unique in the world and illegally fished by the Albanians. We can eat it in Pogradeci’s restaurants or we can just go out of the town and in the sore of the lake we will find boys selling fresh trouts. (trully, we didn’t eat any of them)
In Pogradeci we spent one day, and the next day we just go to Lin, a town by the lake before we drove up to the north. We highly recomend Pogredeci, is a very peacefull and charming town with some bars and restaurants (Luckily, not so many) and also a discoteq! It’s just a completelly different kind of albanian city.

Krujë fou la capital de l’imperi albanès durant l’època de Skanderbeg, al segle XV. Durant gairebè un segle Albània fou assetjada per l’imperi Otomà. El centre d’operacions albanès durant aquest temps fou Krujë, enclatge clau pel control de tot el país.
Skanderbeg defensaria el seu poble de fins a 3 setges, el quart seria el definitiu i seria el primer sense Skanderbeg al capdavant, ja mort per malaria.
Krujë és doncs un centre històric clau pels Albanesos, símbol de la resistència afèrrima del poble albanes. Krujë avui en dia té dues parts: l’enclau històric conegut encara com a Krujë d’uns 20.000 habitants i totalment construït a la muntanya i un segon poble urbanitzat a la falda de la muntanya, aquest és Fushë-Krujë de 10.000 habitants i sense cap interès.
Krujë creix entorn del castell - avui en dia totalment restaurat - de Skanderbeg. La fortalesa, pel nostre gust, està excessivament restaurada, perdent bona part de l’encant d’un castell tot i que ens permet veure la clara estructura d’aquest. Dins del castell, un museu de guerra dedicat al “gran heroi”. Dins les muralles del castell trobem la torre de control, que es troba al punt més alt.
Immediatament a les portes del castell trobem el basar de Krujë, amb els carrerons estrets, empedrats i empinats… és el millor lloc per comprar un souvenir a tot Albània. (no pel nostre gust, però vaja… el “surtido” és important)
Fora d’això, Krujë no té cap interès aparent fora de les quatre coses de sempre, tot i que és un dels nuclis més turistics del país… ara bé… això es deu a la proximitat amb Tirana.
Des de ladupla.com no incentivem especialment la seva visita… el que més val la pena són les excel·lents vistes que hom té des d’aquell punt. Es pot apreciar tota la plana del nord, Tirana i tota la vall que hi ha des de Tirana fins el mar (Durrës).

Tinc un veí albanès.
Al veí albanès li passarem a dir S, ja que té pinta de dir-se Salim.
S és un home alt, de pell bruna, a qui de tant en tant em trobo per l’escala de veïns. Només veure’l és lògic pensar que procedeix dels països de l’est d’Europa. Sempre va ben vestit. Sembla el típic personatge que surt a les pel·lícules d’en Kusturica (per posar un exemple), amb el seu vestit blanc i les seves sabates blanques. La corbata no la duu mai però.
S està orgullós de que algú (en aquest cas el seu veí, o sigui jo) hagi estat a Albània.
Cada vegada que S es troba a mon pare pel barri quasi l’abraça de l’emoció que el fill del seu veí (en aquest cas el veí és mon pare) hagi estat a Albània.
Quan S entra en un bar, i mon pare també hi és (ja que jo no sabria aquest fet si no hi fos) S comença a dir a tota aquella gent que es trobi en el bar que ell fill del seu veí ha estat a Albània.
S sap que jo m’ho vaig passar molt bé a Albània i que em va apassionar.
S sempre mostra el seu orgull a tothom per fer referència que algú ha estat a Albània, el seu país d’origen.
Aquest orgull convida a pensar que Albània és un país on ens acolliran amb els braços ben oberts.
Gràcies a que jo he estat a Albània, he pogut saber que S és d’allà. I n’estic orgullós.
